The reactive method is a plan-first approach to trading: instead of predicting what price will do, you decide in advance what you will do for each thing price can do. Every trade has a written trigger, entry, invalidation point, and planned exits before it is placed. When price acts, you respond according to the plan. When the trigger never fires, you do nothing — which costs nothing.
Position size comes from your risk, not your conviction. First set your risk per trade in dollars — a common starting point in trading literature is 1% of account equity. Then divide by your risk per share (entry price minus stop price): shares = risk per trade ÷ (entry − stop). A wider stop means fewer shares; the dollars at risk stay the same either way.
A trading journal should record every trade the same day: date, symbol, direction, the written plan, actual entry and exit, share size, dollar P/L, whether you followed the plan, and your emotional state in one word. The most important metric is plan adherence — the percentage of trades executed as written. Weekly reviews tally the numbers, name one repeating pattern, and make exactly one change for the next week.
